There are so many considerations to be weighed when it comes to buying an animal as a pet and companion. Dogs and cats give so much in return for the food, shelter and attention we offer that sometimes the most profound of lessons we can learn are missed or ignored.

What started as a complete impulse buy at a pet store at the Glendale Galleria in April of 1988 became a relationship that lasted 15 years; one I never expected to have and one that left an indelible mark on my soul.

With all the bitching and moaning that goes on in the world, I am constantly reminded of the daily little signals Johnie gave me to show me how he felt. When I was sick or upset Johnie would unfailingly come to my side with much the same look on his puppy face as the pictures inside and made sure I knew he cared.

When it came time to give Johnie his release from this mortal coil, I vowed to never let his spirit fade from any part of my life as long as I live.
