Children Lie

When a girl looks up
At her own blue sky
Her mother tries not to cry
All that lives bright and new
Is just some kind of pain
Like seawater rain to the eyes
An eager little boy
Plays with his favorite toy
Yet his father can see no joy
All that is bright and new
Carries it's own hidden cost
Precious time to be lost

Children Lie
They must
Some children just slowly die
And parents who look away
As their children die
Do lie

The daughter has since passed away
Without her, the boy only wishes he could still play
Alone, from now on
When a father is angry
Taken to over-drinking
And under-thinking
A mother finds only her tears
Wondering where her happiest years have gone

Everyone lies
They need to
Childhoods fade away
As they always have
The ones who seek to forget
Are sorrier than the ones they let die
